Mitsubishi / Mitsubishi Terminates Mobile Phone Business
« on: May 04, 2013, 04:02:20 PM »
Mitsubishi has officially announced that the company is terminating its mobile handset business in Japan. The company says that this move has been taken in order to strategically shift resources to the communication-related business and other businesses the company plans to strengthen.
Mitsubishi was selling its mobile phones through NTT DoCoMo’s network. Mitsubishi Electric will not manufacture any more models to network operators. However, consumers can buy phones which have already been shipped via NTT DoCoMo.
This Japanese cell phone maker is supplying handsets to NTT DoCoMo since 1983. Moreover, it expects a shipment of 2.1 million handsets in fiscal 2008 i.e. April 1, 2007-March 31, 2008.
The main reason of the closing down of mobile phones unit is said to be that it was loosing its market in Japan, due to the entry of international mobile phone manufacturers.
Furthermore, Mitsubishi has said that it plans to strengthen its the communication infrastructure business which includes next generation network (NGN) related equipments and base transceiver stations for mobile phones, as well as closed circuit televisions (CCTVs) and other total security businesses, car multi-media business, factory automation system business, train information management systems business and others.
