HTC One X10 users have a reason to be excited with the release of an official TWRP buildAndroid recoveries allow a user to overwrite the stock recovery which comes with the phone to a custom recovery such as TWRP. These custom recoveries allow users to have more control over the recovery on their device. Through the use of a custom recovery, a user can do things such as backing up their device and restoring backups of their device if anything ever goes wrong. The main reason for installing a custom recovery though is usually for flashing custom ROMs. There are many custom ROMs out there created by the community for many different Android devices.Although, there are many different custom Android recoveries out there for users to choose from. Originally the biggest player in this space was ClockworkMod (CWM), but things have changed in the past couple of years as a new player, TeamWin Recovery Project (TWRP), has stepped in and has been creating great recoveries. TWRP is a fully to...

OnePlus 5T owners are next in line to get the Oxygen OS Oreo updateOnePlus has recently been getting a lot of heat because of missing deadlines created by themselves regarding major updates to OxygenOS. Although the company kept it's promise of updating the OnePlus 3 and 3T to Nougat before the end of 2016, it has broken other promises like the one to update the OnePlus 2 to Nougat.OnePlus has however gotten their head back in the game as they have once again been meeting deadlines in a timely manner once again. They released the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the OnePlus 5, they even took it a step further and brought that same Oreo update to their flagships from last year, OnePlus 3 and 3T. According to a tweet from the Twitter account of OnePlus Germany, it seems the OnePlus 5T is next in line to get the Oreo update. OnePlus announced this week that they will be starting an Open Beta program for the Android Oreo update which will soon be released to all OnePlus 5T users. The twe...

Users of the OnePlus 5T will be glad to hear there are more improvements to the camera in this new updateThe last major OxygenOS update that was sent out was about three weeks ago, so OxygenOS 4.7.6 for the OnePlus 5T is a welcome update. Most of the updates that have already gone out to the OnePlus 5T so far have been focused on camera and system optimizations and this update is not any different. It is still a welcome update as there are still bugs in OxygenOS that need fixing. This update is not to be confused with the recently announced open beta for the OnePlus 5T, which allows users to flash a beta version of OxygenOS with the Android Oreo update. Read more about that here. The previous 5T update focused on the kernel, firmware files, and a few camera updates, but OxygenOS 4.7.6 is mostly about the camera. The update has helped improve the stability of the phone's camera software, according to OnePlus, and it delivers improvements allowing for more clarity in low-light shot...

The Desktop-Mobile dream continues with Samsung's work on DeXAccording to a trademark filed by Samsung, they have not given up on DeX, the tool that makes your Galaxy S8 or S8+ into a desktop computer. Instead, they have plans on continuing work on the platform allowing for it to be a real alternative to getting a computer. It is possible that in the new version of DeX, Samsung will be abandoning the traditional dock form factor. The DeX Station was introduced alongside the Galaxy S8 and S8+. Users who forked over an additional $150 to get DeX were able to connect the station to a monitor and also connect a mouse and keyboard in order to use the phone like a Desktop PC.On December 29th, Samsung registered a trademark with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) for "DEX PAD". This trademark shows that it is possible that a new DeX accessory is on the way with the launch of the Galaxy S9 and S9+. It also suggests that the new station could be more like a wireles...

The portrait mode technology in Google's Pixel 2 has been ported to other Android Oreo devices.Mobile phones have been getting some very creative technology, and one enhancement that just keeps pushing limits: the cameras. Each year we see a new round of professional camera technology, embedded in the body of a new thinner flashy smartphone. The iPhone 7 brought a dual camera technology, one of the first mainstream devices to have two cameras working cooperatively together. The Google Pixel 2 and 2 XL were built with amazing HDR+ technology, for professional quality portrait photos that blur the background —which gives a very pristine look.Wait, isn't Google's Portrait mode just for Google devices like the Pixel?Officially yes, however, not anymore, thanks to a developer named Arnova8G2 who has figured out how to make the technology work with other Android Oreo driven devices.According to XDA, the app has successfully brought this functionality to the following devices:...

Nokia 5 camera app leaks references to four Nokia devices that haven't been announced yet.We often see leaks in a variety of ways with tech companies, it's difficult to keep things in the dark for too long (and often times a simple mistake is made, where development assets make it to production unintended). A developer at MySmartPrice decided to take a look around at the Nokia 5 camera app, and decompiled it on his computer — using what appears to be winrar, a file archiver. It was discovered that there are four unannounced devices with logo images for the camera app.Image of decompiled Nokia 5 camera app:image source: mysmartpriceThe image highlights four different devices that have not been announced. The Nokia 5, 7 Plus, 4, and the Nokia 1. The decompiled app only has image files with those phone titles, it does not include any technical information about the devices (specifications, sizes, screen resolutions, battery, etc). There have been rumors of the Nokia 9 a...

Can an Intel Atom laptop run Crysis? When the first Crysis game released in 2007 its PC requirements were so high that it created a meme that has perpetuated itself in PC enthusiast forums and tech blogs for over a decade. The requirements were so insane that even the most expensive PC's of the time had trouble running the game smoothly. On the other side of this story, we have the GPD Pocket. This beautiful pocket size laptop made by up-and-coming Chinese company GPD and is aimed at packing as much power as possible in a small package with a long battery life, so while the amount of RAM is impressive, its CPU and GPU are not exactly what most people would consider "gaming ready".The device includes:  CPU: Intel Atom x7-Z8750    GPU: IntelHD    RAM: 8GB DDR3So, if we use console commands to force Crysis to the most ridiculously lowest graphics it can go, can it be played in the GPD Pocket?Let's find out!Console commandsAt any given moment in the game, you can...

Word of the Xiaomi Mi Max 3's specs are making the rounds, and they're nothing short of impressiveThe newest rumors for the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 claim some pretty incredible additions to the device. Up from 6.44 inches in the Xiaomi Mi Max 2, the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 will reportedly ship with a gorgeous 7-inch display — as well as a sweet upgrade to the battery. The most recently released Xiaomi 2 has a huge 5,300 mAh battery, but the Xiaomi Max 3 is rumored to have a 5,500 mAh battery; a 200 mAh increase from its predecessor. On top of these display changes, it's reportedly going to have a dual camera. The battery is nearly two times the capacity of the most recently released Apple iPhone, with the iPhone X containing a 2,716 mAh battery. The iPhone 8 Plus follows at a close 2,691 mAh, with the iPhone 8 lagging behind at only 1,821 mAh. The smaller the display and the smaller the device, the less power that is needed — so having a smaller battery is not always a bad thing. Not ...

Tool will allow you to activate on firmware 3.60, not previously possible.Up until now, it has been virtually impossible to activate a PS Vita running firmware 3.60, and these devices have been unable to use the Playstation Network — even to download your legally owned games. A developer known as CelesteBlue has tackled the issue with a plugin called "ReNpDrm".ReNpDrm includes two utilities for your homebrew unlocked PS Vita:The first is called ReStore, which will restore access to the Playstation Network on your PS Vita running 3.60. This will allow you to play games online, and download your owned games that have been purchased on the PSN.The second, as described by Wololo;  The second plugin, ReNpDrm, lets you use fake activation data to keep the console "locally" activated, which will let you play the games you legally own, even if  your console has been deactivated. This is useful for people whose vita has been deactivated. This tool enables your device to run...

Google's virtual assistant now listens to "Hey Google" for many users. If you're an Android user, you're probably familiarized with the classic "Ok Google" voice command to initiate the Google Search app, the same voice command used for Google's powerful virtual assistant. Google is now changing the command to a much more natural, "Hey Google" which is thrilling news. The newly updated phrase is much more akin to what we actually say when we begin speaking in real-world scenarios, as opposed to a much more robotic "Ok Google".Apple first introduced their own version, "Hey Siri", in 2011 with the iOS 9 update. Both Google and Apple have incredibly powerful virtual assistants, with many divided on which is 'better'.To make "Hey Google" effective and personal to each user, they have a calibration exercise when setting it up for the first time. The process walks you through a few iterations of saying, "Hey Google" so that it can be fine-tuned to your personal voice. This ensures tha...

Have a fingerprint sensor and a finger? You might be able to control your phone using those two things. If you own any of the current Android smartphones on the market, chances are you have a fingerprint sensor. Most users with a fingerprint sensor usually enable it for its main feature, which is security and ease of unlocking your phone. But did you know that a lot of phones such as the Samsung Galaxy S8, the Google Pixel and the Pixel 2 actually have an option within the settings that allow for the user to swipe down on the fingerprint sensor in order to pull down the notification tray? You might be skeptical towards a feature that sounds sort of gimmicky, but if you have a tall phone such as the Galaxy S8 then you may know how hard it can be sometimes to reach up and pull the notification tray down. Being a user of an S8, I can personally tell you I rarely reach up to the top of my screen to pull down the notification tray anymore. My main method to accessing my notifications is...

The Moto G4 Plus now has support for 64-bit custom ROMs.64-bit applications are becoming the standard for many mobile Operating Systems, with Apple dropping 32-bit app support on its most recently released iOS:  Support for 32-bit apps is not available in iOS 11 and all 32-bit apps previously installed on a user's device will not launchWe're seeing a similar change begin in other areas of the mobile industry, with some Android apps requiring 64-bit OS in order to operate, which in turn is causing some grief for 32-bit only devices. It's becoming increasingly important to have a 64-bit support, and will only become more so in the future. That's one of the many reasons it's odd that the 64-bit capable Moto G4 Plus launched only with a 32-bit version of Android. The Motorola Moto G4 Plus has a decent processor, a Snapdragon 617 which has a 1.5GHz clock speed. According to Qualcomm, the manufacturer of the Snapdragon series, the 617 model has a 64-bit CPU architecture. So the ch...
