Be it haters on your Twitter timeline trying to force you to log off, or your prankster Android-using friends messaging you the now-infamous Telugu character and crashing Messages, it has been quite a week to be an iPhone user.  As with many previous similar issues, the problem is with Core Text, Apple's technology for drawing text and handling fonts. According to a Mozilla engineer Manish Goregaokar, the issue is caused by how ligatures are handled for some Indic languages. In this case, the source of the bug was the combination of Telegu characters in a certain format, which, while usually not very useful, can actually occur in some alphabets. It's possible that whenever Core Text on iOS (or macOS, or tvOS...) tries to handle this sequence characters, a miscommunication occurs, and the buffer for these glyphs is not allocated, which causes an error, and, eventually, a crash.  While this is may not be as serious of an issue in terms of security, it is a denial of service attack, and...

Analogue's 'Super NT' plays classic Super Nintendo games at 1080p resolution. The Super NT is a new system that plays original SNES games. It's slightly larger than the recently released Super NES Classic, but it is far more capable and isn't limited to a specific game collection (like the SNES Classic). The amazing thing about this system is the technology it is engineered with: a custom field-programmable gate array (FPGA) that is built to run original SNES classic cartridges exactly the way they ran back in the day on the classic hardware. It's not an emulation, it runs 100% accurately with 'zero lag' as the official analogue site explains.Availability & CostThe console is available for pre-order in four different colors:Super Nt - BlackSuper Nt - ClassicSuper Nt - SFSuper Nt - TransparentAll are currently out of stock with exception to the Super Nt - Black model, which is available to pre-order for $189.99. It ships with the Analogue Super Nt console, HDMI cable, U...

Check out this cool YouTube channel that plays music using calculators! There is a video on YouTube that has amassed almost 5 million views for playing the Super Mario theme using 4 calculators, but that is not all. The YouTube channel by the name of It's a small world has many videos similar to the one playing the Super Mario theme and they are all fairly popular getting millions of views each. You can watch the video of the Super Mario theme song being played on calculators below:This YouTube channel is different from everything else you normally find on YouTube. In most cases you will stumble upon a video that has a clickbait title, it's only purpose is making money by gaining views. Sometimes these videos can be interesting or they can be terrible, but it does not matter to the creator as they are only looking to make money. So, seeing a channel that's only purpose is to share cool things such as music being played using calculators, makes me feel a little refreshed and reg...

If you ever wondered, "hmmm I wonder where that Tesla that Elon Musk launched into space is", this website will solve that problem for youAbout a week ago SpaceX, whose CEO is Elon Musk, launched their Falcon Heavy spaceship, which is the most powerful rocket since Saturn V took astronauts to the moon. The payload for the Falcon Heavy was Elon Musk's personal Tesla Roadster 2, a luxury sports car created by Musk's other company. The car even had a passenger, an empty SpaceX suit made to look like an actual astronaut named "Starman". After about six hours Starman and the car were on an escape trajectory that Musk hoped would allow for the car to be put in orbit around the sun and have a close pass by with Mars. However, a few hours later, Musk tweeted out on his Twitter account that they had overshot the trajectory a little bit and the car was headed for the asteroid belt instead. However, according to Space.com, the car seems to be headed on a path that will allow it to pass clos...

A magical little device that fits in your pocket. Hmmm...While it easy to get excited about the next generation of GPUs or the new line of ultra-powerful gaming laptops if you look away from the mainstream brands you can find some interesting alternatives that hint to a different future for PC Gaming.A good example of this is Chinese Shengen based company Game Pad Digital (GPD), which started gaining track in the west by producing Android-based handheld consoles like the 3Ds-like GPD XD, which found a lot of fans among the Android Gaming and emulation crowd. On 2016 they decided to try to extend the concept to create another clamshell gaming device, but this time running Windows 10 and capable of running Windows 10 programs. GPD ran an Indiegogo campaign to fund the last mile of their development, reached over $700 000 and delivered an Intel Atom-powered device that could run a variety of games. This learning experience was then used to develop the GPD Pocket, a MacBook-l...

Boost your performance with this one simple trick! (No, really)Devil May Cry 4, widely considered one of the best hack and slash games ever created, originally released 10 years ago with an enhanced version releasing on PC during 2015.The minimum requirements for this "Special Edition" are quite conservative:Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo 2.4GHz, AMD Athlon(TM) X2 2.8 GHzGraphics: NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) 8800 GTS, AMD Radeon(TM) HD 3850 with 512MB RAM or better.RAM: 2 GBSince the game includes a rather extensive benchmark I was interested in seeing if I could incorporate it into the set of test I always run on very low-end PCs with Integrated GPUs. There are also a couple of interesting tweaks you can do to greatly increase your performance when needed. For example, the first PC I tested was the GPD Pocket. This miniature MacBook-like laptop is powered by an Intel Atom x7 Z8750 + 8 GB of RAM.On the lowest settings and a resolution of 800x600, the initial benchmark sc...

Android 2 has been ported to the Ticwatch 2.The Ticwatch 2 was created by Mobvoi, which was founded 6 years ago in 2012. The original Ticwatch 2 campaign raised over $2 million from nearly 10,000 backers on Kickstarter. It was created with a built-in Operating System, "Ticwear OS", but we're now seeing the horizons expanded. Even though the Ticwatch 2 is compatible with both iOS and Android operating systems, some users see the Ticwatch OS as a drawback and would prefer native Android Wear running on the smartwatch.Fortunately a member over at the XDA forums, EpicLPer, decided that the Ticwatch 2 needed Android Wear support. He worked with a developer on the side to make this project possible. As typical, should you decide to try his port out, it is advised that you backup the watch before proceeding further. On top of this, it is required to have a developer dock on the Ticwatch 2. The port is considered early alpha and is missing some relatively crucial features at this state (...

Android Oreo for the Huawei Watch 2 comes with a hitherto unforeseen compromise for Android Pay users who are not in the UK or US.This issue came to light with users on the Android Wear subreddit noting that Google had disabled the Android Pay app in non-US or UK regions. While some users were able to enable it manually by searching for the app in the Play Store, the app would disable itself automatically in a matter of hours, making the effort wasted.A Reddit user noted that Google's response to this was to observe that Android Pear for Wear had not launched outside the US and UK. This is correct but does not cover the whole story. Android Pay has been launched outside the UK and US and in fact, operates in 15 other countries. In addition to that, Huawei Watch 2 users were able to make use of Android Wear on the Watch 2 prior to the Oreo update. The thing is, Google does support Android Pay on Android Wear since the Wear 2.0 update but treats it as different when it comes to av...

T-Mobile is warning its customers about an industry level hijacking problem.  T-Mobile has begun dispatching a warning text message to customers in the United States. All customers are being sent the alert, but in waves; it would stress the network to send a message to all customers at the same time.  What is the scam?  Most users today have phone numbers associated with everything, from social media accounts to email addresses, bank accounts and so on. They are consistently used as an authentication measure and fallback if you forget your password, and help to "verify" you are who you say you are. Because of this, phone numbers have become a huge target for scammers, and they aren't being lazy about it. The criminal basically contacts the phone company (T-Mobile, Sprint, AT&T etc) and impersonates whoever they are attempting to hijack. If successful, they request a new SIM card with another phone provider and activate it with the phone number of the user they targeted. This proc...

VLC media player beta adds experimental Chromecast support.  Chromecast has been a very popular product since it's launch, in July 2013. The updated model, "Chromecast Ultra" was released just two years ago with support for 4K streaming. Now we are finally seeing VLC media player investigate Chromecast support by enabling experimental streaming in the latest beta release, v2.9.  Using the feature is actually very straightforward. Just like other apps that support Chromcast streaming, a little cast icon is at the top of the screen which you can tap to stream your favorite TV Shows, movies, music, or other media that you have stored to the Chromecast device of your choosing.  If you use VLC and have an Android device with Google Play, you can visit the community here and join for free: VLC Beta Testing. You can also post feedback, and discuss the builds with other community members who continually help refine the apps before they reach the masses.  The recent 2.9.1 changelog was posted...

Elementary OS is receiving a significant version bump this spring, to version 5.0  Elementary OS is a Linux based operating system that takes a simple and modern design approach. Their headline is "A fast and open replacement for Windows and macOS", with some characteristics closely resembling parts of both Windows and macOS. The newest and upcoming update to Elementary OS will be deviating from its typical upgrade version bump. The most recent release was version Loki (0.4), with previous versions following the format (0.1, 0.2, etc). Elementary OS has decided that with this update the version would not follow suit as 0.5, but instead, "5.0". They felt that due to the stability and adoption of Elementary OS, it should be bumped to a full version; but rather than go directly to 1.0, it was decided that as a "fifth release" the version go directly to 5.0.  Release and information  Currently, there is no set release date for Elementary OS Juno, because the Elementary OS development fol...
