Samsung and LG are Exploring Sapphire Glass
« on: May 28, 2014, 07:42:42 AM »
Both Samsung and LG are reportedly sampling sapphire glass from  manufacturers for possible use in their mobile devices. Industry  insiders say the companies reviewed the material last year as well but  found it too expensive to adopt, reports the Electronic Times via  GforGames.

This year however, the aforementioned Korean tech  giants might be forced by the industry to reconsider their decision.  With numerous other gadget manufacturers putting a lot of thought into  making sapphire glass feasible, and with Apple already operating the  sapphire glass processing plant in US, Arizona, LG and Samsung are  supposedly going to jump on the sapphire display bandwagon sooner rather  than later.

GT Advanced has already begun shipping sapphire to Apple partners in China and the companies may be looking to expand operations at the yet to be completed Mesa, Arizona facility.

Notably, it's been suggested that Apple not only plans to use sapphire glass for the iPhone 6 but that the sapphire glass will also function as a solar charging panel for the device.

It's clear that Apple has big plans for sapphire crystal and its competitors have taken notice.
