jailbreaking ios7
« on: April 09, 2014, 01:42:14 PM »
evasi0n7 is available now for jailbreaking iOS 7.0-7.0.6 untethered  on  all iOS devices (except Apple TV) -- you can download it from evasi0n.com. Please read carefully and follow the instructions on the ReadMe.txt that comes with the evasi0n7 download.
IMPORTANT: Apple has released iOS 7.1 to the public, and it patches the exploits used in the evasi0n7 jailbreak. Currently there is no jailbreak for iOS 7.1, so do not update.   The only iOS 7 firmware that you can restore to is iOS 7.1 (downgrades   are impossible right now). The iPhone 4 has a bootrom exploit that   allows it to be jailbroken tethered on any iOS version, but there is no   officially-supported/recommended tethered jailbreaking tool available   for 7.1 for iPhone 4 yet.
If Cydia didn't appear after jailbreaking: If you updated your device to the firmware that it is currently running via an Over The Air   (OTA) update (updating through the Settings app on your device,  instead  of using iTunes), it is highly likely that the jailbreak will  get stuck  at some point and Cydia will not be installed. More than  likely, you'll  see the application stop at "modifying rootfs."
Other problems? Scroll down to the list of issues and possible fixes.
 Instructions:

  • Make sure you have the latest  version of iTunes installed (it  includes drivers that help your  computer communicate with your device).
  • Plug your device into your computer.
  • Open  iTunes, click your device (in the sidebar or at the top-right  if you  have the sidebar disabled) and choose "Back Up Now." If the  jailbreak  process fails, you can restore your data from this backup.
  • If  your device is locked with a passcode, you must temporarily  disable it.  Open the Settings app, navigate to General and then Passcode  Lock.  Enter your passcode, then tap "Turn Passcode Off."
  • Your iTunes  backup password must also be disabled. In iTunes, click  your device and  then untick "Encrypt Local Backup." Enter your password,  then allow  iTunes to backup your device again. If this option is greyed  out: On  the device, open Settings, tap General, tap Profiles and remove  all  entries there.
  • Go to evasi0n.com and download evasi0n7 by clicking on the blue button for your operating system.
  • Close  iTunes, then open the evasi0n7 app. For best results, ensure  your  device is showing the home screen and no other apps are open.
  • Click Jailbreak. This process will take a while, so give it a few minutes and try not to do anything that could interfere.
  • Follow the instructions from the evasion7 app.
  • After  the jailbreak completes, Cydia will appear on your home  screen. Open  it and wait for it to download the latest package data from  its  repositories - you'll know it's done after "Reloading Data" shows  up  for a few seconds and disappears.
  • You can now install any tweak  that is compatible for iOS 7.0.x (and  is 64-bit compatible if you have  an iPhone 5s, iPad Air, or iPad mini  Retina); here is a convenient list of what works (and what doesn't work). Don't forget to enable device and backup passwords if you disabled them.

Issues and possible fixes:

  • After jailbreaking using  evasi0n7 v1.0.6, packages in Cydia  are not the latest versions (Cydia  Substrate 0.9.5000 instead of latest  0.9.5001) or some packages and/or  dependencies will not appear at all  (Flipswitch). This issue ONLY  occurs on initial Cydia launch of devices  jailbroken using evasi0n7  v1.0.6 and has been fixed in evasi0n7 v1.0.7.
    • This is caused by a Cydia cache bug which makes Cydia load packages from an earlier date.
    • Fix  is to clear Cydia cache by installing and running  iCleaner with all 3  Cydia toggles enabled. Another way to clear Cydia  cache is to use an  iOS content browser to delete everything in the  /var/lib/apt/lists  folder EXCEPT the partial folder. After clearing the  cache, make sure  to click Refresh in the Cydia Changes tab to allow  Cydia to load the  latest packages.
  • Jailbreaking with evasi0n7 might cause your device to go into a reboot loop or leave your device stuck on the Apple logo screen.
    • Backup your device in iTunes BEFORE you attempt to jailbreak, just in case this happens to you.
    • Restore  the firmware of your device in iTunes and restore your  iTunes or  iCloud backup. There is no jailbreak for the latest iOS  version (iOS  7.1), so you'll be stuck without one for a while. You  might need to  put your device into DFU mode to restore it: with your  device connected  to your computer, hold the power (lock) button and home  button for 10  seconds, then release the power button but keep holding  the home button  for another 15 seconds. iTunes should then recognize  your device and  allow you to restore it.
  • Devices that were OTA updated to 7.x will not jailbreak in most cases.
    • When  attempting to jailbreak a device that was updated OTA, it  will  normally fail at "modifying rootfs." Since iOS 7.1 has been  released to  the public, you can now only restore to iOS 7.1. You can try   jailbreaking your OTA updated device using evasi0n7 but there is a   strong possibility it will fail. Just make sure you backup your data via   iTunes before you attempt to jailbreak and be prepared to have to   restore to iOS 7.1 which is currently not jailbreakable.

  • Some tweaks and themes are not yet iOS 7 or 64-bit compatible
    • To see reports of which Cydia tweaks work (or don't work) on iOS 7.0.x, check out this list.
    • Some  tweaks will not work on A7 devices (iPhone 5s, iPad mini  Retina, iPad  Air), as they have not yet been updated for 64-bit  compatibility.
    • Check the package description and change log to see if it mentions iOS 7/64-bit support.

  • evasi0n7 will not open on OS X 10.6.8, and might not open on OS X 10.8.x/10.9.x for some users.
    • evasi0n7  does not work on OS X 10.6.8. To be able to jailbreak, use a  Mac on  10.7 or later or a Windows computer on XP or later. If that  doesn't  help, try another computer.
    • If you get an error on OS X 10.8.x  or 10.9.x saying that evasi0n7  can't be opened, control-click (or  right-click) the app and on the  revealed context menu, choose 'Open.'  On the ensuing dialogue box,  choose 'Open' as well.

  • evasi0n7 might get stuck at the "Configuring System 2/2" stage.
    • This   might happen when jailbreaking using a slow computer. Try jailbreaking   using a different computer (hopefully a faster one). If access is not   available to a faster computer, sometimes closing any background   programs before running evasi0n7 might help. If all else fails,   sometimes a little patience can help too, as it may take more than one   attempt to successfully pass this step.

  • evasi0n7 might give you this error: "Failed to retrieve package info from the internet."
    • The issue can be fixed using a VPN like this. After installing & enabling the VPN, run the evasi0n7 again and you should be good to continue!
  • evasi0n7 might get stuck at some other stage in the jailbreaking process.
    • If  the jailbreak already installed the evasi0n7 app on the  iDevice,  delete it (by long-holding on its icon and pressing the little  "x" in  the top-left corner of the icon), and then try again. You might  need to  do this several times to get it to work.

  • The device filesystem is not accessible from iFunbox or other USB browsers.
    • Install afc2add from Telesphoreo (a default repository) in Cydia. This will enable your filesystem to be accessed via USB.

  • The status bar might not change colors or might overlap certain parts of the user interface in stock apps.
    • This is a bug cause by Cydia 1.1.9, and will hopefully be officially fixed by saurik soon.
    • Unofficial:  Add this repo (In Cydia go to the  Manage tab and then click on  Sources, then click Edit in the top-right  corner followed by Add in the  top-left corner): repo.pnre.co.vu and  install StatusBarFix2 from it
  • There are a lot of concerns and questions about the alternative app store that evasi0n7 installs for Chinese users called TAiG.
    • evasi0n7  1.0.1 (and later versions) do not install TAiG, and the  evad3rs  remotely disabled its installation on the 1.0.0 version.
