Whatever Apple wants, Apple seems to get. As MMi reported May 7th, Apple has made an effort to secure the rights to iPhone5.com through the World Intellectual Property Organization. Until now, that domain was owned by another non-Apple entity.

What a difference a month can make. On Thursday, published reports indicate that the World Intellectual Property Organization is going to help Apple gain control of the iphone5.com domain name.

Apple has started censoring the word “jailbreak” in the US iTunes Store. Seriously, go search for any song or album with “jailbreak” in the title and it will come up “j*******k.”

Notable iOS hacker @planetbeing made the jailbreak censoring observation last night. However, Apple appears to be only censoring the use of the word jailbreak in the US iTunes store. Additionally, not every instance is censored. Thin Lizzy’s classic record Jailbreak has its title censored for the new deluxe edition, but the album’s description contains the word “Jailbreak” uncensored. Also, older versions of the record aren’t

New job listings for Apple Retail store leader positions in Shenzhen and Chengdu hint at the company’s plan to expand its retail operations to new cities in China. In 2010 Apple reportedly revealed to its shareholders plans to open a total of 25 stores over the course of two years. Although the company doesn’t appear to be on track, the stores it did open in Beijing and Shanghai quickly rose to become the company’s highest traffic and highest revenue stores as of December 2010.

The stores have been so popular at times that Apple security officials had trouble controlling the crowds of customers.

The Taiwan-based publication Liberty Times recently shared some interesting information about the rumored 7.85-inch “iPad Mini.” The publication reported that LG and AU Optronics were certified to supply the LCD panel for the iPad Mini. It even goes on to claim that both manufacturers were working to ship the panels for production and for a release sometime during the latter half of 2012.

Rumors of a smaller sized iPad have been met with skepticism by many, especially in light of comments made by the late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs on an earnings conference call in 2010. At the time,

Verizon's CFO Fran Shammo announced during the 40th annual J.P.
After being JC Penney’s CEO for a little over six months on the job, former Apple senior vice president of retail Ron Johnson is already seeing criticism of the major overhaul he designed for the ailing department store chain as a recent earnings call revealed substantial losses. After leaving Apple in November 2011 to take charge of the department store, Johnson sought out to increase margins with the introduction of a new pricing model and unique retail ideas like the store-within-a-store, but customer response to the efforts fell flat according to Reuters.
1GB Elpida DRAM chipset in the new iPad.

Digitimes latest rumor has had quite the effect on stock prices for Samsung and Hynix.

Digitimes reported earlier this week that Apple recently placed “huge” order for DRAM chips from Elpida. The massive order will supposedly command nearly half of the output capacity of Elpida's main plant in Hiroshima, Japan. Rumors of the massive order resulted in competing chipmaker Samsung losing nearly $10 billion in market capital with the company’s price per share down 6%.

Although Apple only sells smartphones, Apple represents nearly 8% of all worldwide mobile phone sales, making it the third-largest handset maker. Gartner announced its latest mobile device data for the first quarter of calendar 2012 and it found that Apple’s 33.1 million iPhones sold accounted for 7.9% of the total mobile phone market.

It should be noted that Gartner’s data represents worldwide mobile device sales to end users, not shipments. Furthermore, the 33.1 million iPhones that Gartner says Apple sold is off by two million from the 25.1 million Apple itself reported

On Wednesday, Apple gave developers another updated version of OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion Developer Preview 3. This, as you know, is the pre-release build of the next major Mac operating system refresh.

The update, or Build 12A206j, is now available for download by registered Mac developers. Although details about the release are still just trickling in, it looks like Apple is telling developers that the MacBook Pro released almost 5 years ago (the mid '07 models) won't be compatible with the new build, although a future update will remedy this glitch.

For now,

If you are like many who thought iOS’ App Switcher could do with some major improvement, then perhaps a new jailbreak tweak dubbed Switchy by iOS developer John Coates will give your eyes the most relaxing massage they’ve ever had.
iOS is a very quiet operating system. Unlike desktop operating systems, iOS doesn't make noises when you click on things (or tapping, in the case of iOS) and it doesn't make noises when error or prompt messages pop up. Some tweaks have been released to try and make iOS a little more fun in the noise aspect by playing noises for when you page through each page on the home screen or when you launch applications.

If random noises aren't your cup of tea, then a new free jailbreak tweak is available in Cydia starting today, dubbed LaunchSpeak by iOS developer

Consumer electronics giant Samsung has hit a rough patch. Today alone, shares of Samsung Electronics fell 6% percent - a move that effectively swiped away $10 billion from the company's mighty market value.

The sell-off was sparked by speculation that Apple is planning to drastically reduce its working relationship with Samsung. The iDevice maker is said to have begun placing chip orders with Samsung rival Elpida instead.
If it's true that "good things take time," then Sprint must have something amazing in store. Because it will have taken a veritable eternity in the mobile world for the iPhone to become profitable for the nation's third largest mobile carrier.

According to published reports Wednesday, Sprint CEO Dan Hesse isn't an impatient man. In fact, he sounds more than willing to wait another three years for the iPhone to become profitable for his company. As it turns out, that's how long it will take before Sprint's strategic investment yields any green.

A new Wall Street Journal report claims Apple’s next iPhone will indeed feature a larger 4-inch screen.

Citing sources “familiar with the situation” the WSJ claims Apple has been looking to its suppliers for larger screens for the next iPhone with sizes of at least 4-inches. Rumors surrounding the next iPhone, and even the iPhone 4S before it, have long speculated that Apple has plans to increase the size of their iconic handset. However, the rumors haven’t materialized with each generation of the iPhone sharing the familiar 3.5-inch screen size.
